Manchester United can now prepare for a busy summer transfer window after finally deciding to stick with Erik ten Hag,

The Red Devils have a number of areas to improve before the 2024/25 season with a new centre-back, central midfielder and striker all set to be on the cards. However, PSR limitations could prevent them from adding Ten Hag's priority targets.

Jarrad Branthwaite and Joao Neves are two names strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford, but many others are likely to be on the club's radar.

With that said, MEN Sport has taken a look at the latest Man United news and gossip that has been doing the rounds.

United's own Haaland

United could look to turn to the wonderkid transfer market this summer with reports claiming they are monitoring Red Bull Salzburg wonderkid Oghenetejiri Adejenughure.

According to The Express, the 17-year-old is wanted by United, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund. He has impressed in Austria with 16 goals in 20 games at Under-18 level with a further four in the Under-17 European Championships.

Adejenughure, like Erling Haaland, has caught the eye while at Salzburg and United are said to be monitoring his progress. Ex-United boss Ralf Rangnick, who currently manages Austria, has 'already earmarked' him as a potential candidate for a senior call-up.

MEN Sport's Josh Holland says: United haven't invested in the market of youngsters properly for some time. Many would argue that their priority should be on improving Ten Hag's current squad but the signing of an unknown prodigy should be on the club's list and Sir Jim Ratcliffe has said his team should be looking for the next Kylian Mbappe.

Preparing for the future is the right way to go, long-term, and there's evidence that forwards from Salzburg can grow into their potential. Should Adejenughure move to Old Trafford, he will need time to grow and be integrated into the first-team set-up at a gradual pace.

Arsenal present Branthwaite problem

Arsenal's pursuit of Everton's Amadou Onana could hinder United's hopes of signing Jarrad Branthwaite. The Gunners have been following Onana since last summer and were said to be interested in bringing him to the Emirates Stadium in January.

According to our sister title Liverpool Echo, the Gunners have enquired about the Belgium international this summer. Should Onana move to Mikel Arteta's side, it could deal United a significant blow in their hopes of signing Branthwaite.

Writing on X, formerly Twitter, the Echo's Joe Thomas said: "Arsenal interest in Onana has potential to be significant blow to Man Utd's pursuit of Jarrad Branthwaite.

“A sale before end of June would be helpful to Everton's PSR position. If that was to be Onana, it would help Everton to, at the least, fight to gain true value for the CB.”

MEN Sport's Josh Holland says: This would be a huge blow for United. Arsenal are desperate for a new midfielder and if their spending last summer is anything to go by, they are expected to spend big this year.

Should Ten Hag miss out on Branthwaite because one of their league rivals managed to get a deal over the line first, it would be another missed chance. Everton aren't short of potential suitors for their prized-assets but their PSR problems does mean they will welcome any deal before June 30.

United are already facing difficulty to get Branthwaite due to the Toffees' high asking price. The fear of seeing that fee rise should Onana go to Arsenal would be a disaster and alternatives would have to be targeted.
