A man was left in shock after his £40 Indian takeaway was mistakenly delivered to a neighbour who decided to eat it.

The incident sparked outrage on X (formerly Twitter), with the man, using the handle @FPLMate, noting his surprise when he discovered his neighbours had begun eating his order.

He took to social media to express his disbelief, saying: "Ordered £40 worth of Indian food and it was delivered to our neighbour by mistake."

Upon knocking on their door to ask for the delivery, he found that they had already started enjoying the meal. He asked his followers: "Knocked on the neighbour's door to see if they had it, and they had already started eating it. I'm dumbfounded by this. Do people just accept and eat other people's food?? Is this normal???"

The post swiftly ignited a debate on what the proper etiquette for such an instance should be, with one follower labelling the situation as "wild" and stating: "I'd be fuming". Another joked: "No way! Did they invite you in to eat with them?"

One curious user posed the question: "I need to know the outcome here. Did they attempt to give it back half-eaten? What on earth did you say?"

Distraught by the tumultuous turn of events, the original poster replied: "No they didn't. Honestly, I didn't know what to say. I'm so confused by this whole situation I thought maybe I was the weird one for always refusing to accept mistaken deliveries."

In his frustration, he also considered revenge, saying: "I'm tempted to throw a full portion of tikka masala sauce at their door."

The Reddit user then thanked the online community for support and confirmed plans to move, saying: "Thank you to everyone who has validated that this is not normal. I feel much better now. In other news, it looks like I will need to relocate to a new neighbourhood to avoid future awkwardness."
