Man wrongfully jailed for 33 years speaks of turmoil ‘waking up knowing he was innocent’

A California man who has been freed after wrongfully spending 33 years in prison has spoken of his struggle “every day waking up knowing you’re innocent.”

Daniel Saldana was sentenced to 45 years in prison after he, alongside two others, was convicted of attempted murder in 1989.

The now 55-year-old was convicted of opening fire on a car carrying six teenagers in Los Angeles.

Saldana was freed and declared innocent after a district attorney’s office learned that another convicted attacker told authorities Saldana was not involved.
