Holidaymakers are facing disastrous starts to their sunshine breaks away - after Manchester Airport cancelled a raft of flights. Today's chaos is being blamed on a power cut earlier this morning.

It means passengers on flights due to leave terminal one and two are being advised not to come to the airport. Flights from terminal three are affected by delays.

One group of North Staffordshire holidaymakers have already fallen victim to the travel chaos after their easyjet flight to Majorca was cancelled this morning.

A Manchester Airport spokesman said: "Passengers due to travel from terminals one or two today are advised not to come to the airport until further notice and to contact their airlines. Passengers due to fly from terminal three should come to the airport as normal unless advised otherwise by their airline but could be affected by delays."

The disruption is also affecting flights which had been due to land at Manchester Airport.

The Manchester Airport spokesman added: "A number of arriving flights are being diverted to other airports so anyone due to pick passengers up from the airport are advised to check before they travel. We apologise for any inconvenience and aim to restore normal service as soon as possible."
