Manchester Airport bosses have issued luggage advice to anyone planning on travelling to and from the airport.

One of the busiest airports in the UK, thousands of passengers pass through its terminals each day. There are direct flights in operation to some 181 destinations across 54 countries.

With many of these travellers checking in baggage, it can make trips a lot smoother if your luggage is easily identifiable. In a new post on X, formerly Twitter, airport bosses have told travellers how they can do just that.

The post reads: "Stand out from the crowd this #TravelTipTuesday and decorate your luggage with something very recognisable. Colourful ribbons or stickers mean you will easily spot your luggage on the baggage carousel!

"Alternatively, track your luggage with Bluetooth luggage tags."

A new state of the art baggage system has been installed at Manchester, aimed at giving travellers a speedier and easier experience when moving through the airport. The upgrade comes as bosses forecast that from 2025, Terminal 2 will serve around 70% of the airport’s passengers.

The one-of-a-kind baggage system has been built by specialists Vanderlande and can process 3,000 bags per hour. The multi-million pound machine has already processed over 100,000 bags since it went live at the end of March.

The maximum distance a bag could travel from check in to being taken onto an aircraft is 582 metres – equivalent to almost six football pitches. On average a bag will take around 10 minutes to get through the system before being picked up by ground handling agents and put onto an aircraft.
