A worker at Manchester Airport has shared his top tips for passengers to help them make the most of their experience. Going on holiday is exciting but flying can be stressful for some, especially as many people only pass through the airport on rare occasions.

But those who work at the airport are familiar with the processes involved and know the best approach to take when it comes to the airport experience. Manchester Airport recently shared an insight into the work of Backfill Customer Experience Duty Manager Ethan Ferguson.

His role entails making sure passengers have a smooth experience while in the airport and helping them with any issues. Ethan can work across all three terminals and deals with airlines and handling agents too.

Thanks to his job he has some useful tips for passengers which may seem obvious, but chances are you don’t normally do this when you’re travelling. It can be tempting to spend ages browsing Duty Free on the assumption your gate won't be announced for a while, but this can lead to a last-minute rush if you don't stay updated on the gate information.

Ethan says you should make sure you allow yourself time to make it to the gate. He said: “My main advice once you are through security and in the departure lounge is to always keep an eye on flight information screens throughout the lounge. This means once the screens display 'Go to the gate', You know you will arrive at the gate in plenty of time to board.”

When boarding is announced you may leap up immediately in the hope of getting on the plane sooner, but Ethan suggests it’s better to remain seated until your row is announced - so you don’t have to wait as long in the queue.

He added: “Secondly, once you arrive at the gate, wait to hear your row number being called out before joining the queue. This way, you can remain seated at the gate and not have to stand in a queue before your row has started boarding.”
