Manchester bombing: Footage shows Salman Abedi checking his explosives

Grainy footage of the Manchester Arena bomber checking his explosive store days before his deadly attack has been played to the jury in the trial of his brother.

The CCTV footage, filmed on 18 May 2017, shows Salman Abedi inspecting a Nissan Micra that was believed to contain all the equipment and ready-mixed chemicals needed to make his bomb.

He had parked the car with his brother Hashem in the Rusholme area of Manchester four weeks prior, before the pair's parents took them back to Libya.

In the video, Salman can first be seen looking in the passenger window and later looks into the boot.

The whole event takes around a minute and a half.

Just four days later, the 22-year-old would detonate an explosive in the foyer of the Manchester Arena after an Ariana Grande concert, killing himself and 22 other people.

His brother Hashem, who was arrested in Libya the day after the attack, is now on trial for 22 counts of murder having been accused of helping his brother to make the weapon.

The case on Friday showed the CCTV as it retraced the final movements of Salman.

Two hours prior to him allegedly inspecting explosives material in the Nissan Micra, Salman was on a returning flight from Libya.

His parents had taken taken him and his brother back to the North African nation four weeks earlier amid fears from the family the siblings had been radicalised.

But Salman is believed to have used a student loan payment and grant to purchase his flights back to the UK, and make several other expenses payments.

He then rented a one-bedroom flat on Granby Row - paying the landlady in cash he withdrew - to put the finishing touches on his bomb.

Speaking in court on Friday, the landlady, Ruth Baines, said it wasn't until three days after the attack when she saw his name on the news that she realised what had happened.

She said: "I Googled the name and was presented with a number of images I instantly recognised as Sam Abdi, to whom I had rented the apartment.

"I was in complete shock and couldn't believe the person who rented my apartment was involved in this atrocity."

She went straight to police without returning to the apartment, she said.

The trial continues.
