Manchester City will face Southampton in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup should they progress beyond the fifth round this weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side face Wigan Atheltic at the DW Stadium on Monday night, and will be looking to keep their quadruple hopes alive with a positive result.

City came through a bruising encounter in the last round to book their place in the fifth round after beating Cardiff City 2-0 At the Cardiff City Stadium.

Kevin De Bruyne scored a typically genius free-kick, something that City fans have been treated to all too regularly in opposing fans opinion, and Raheem Sterling continued his fine scoring form this season with a second just before half-time.

Leroy Sane was on the wrong end of a shocking looking challenge from Cardiff’s Joe Bennett, who should really have seen red for the tackle. You could however say justice may have been done when Bennett was given his arching orders for a second yellow card in stoppage time at the end of the match.

Sane had been injured since the game, but made his comeback playing half-an-hour in City’s Champions League victory at Basel in midweek.

The German winger returned five weeks earlier than first feared, which will be a huge boost for Pep Guardiola, with his side still in contention to win the quadruple at the end of the season.
