A Manchester restaurant loved by the world's most famous food guide has announced a new dining concept. Another Hand, a casual, neighbourhood eatery, will be launching Jaan, a pop-up project inspired by the flavours of the Middle East in the coming weeks.

They'll be taking up the unit previously run by Rigatoni's at Exhibition food hall on Peter Street from May 8. They'll join existing food traders Osma and Baratxuri within St George's House, the former home of Manchester's old natural history museum which was reopened as an upscale dining hub in 2022.

The new dining concept will revolve around Another Hand's much-loved flatbreads, a staple of their menu at their original site on Deansgate Mews. Breads will be accompanied by a selection of small plates and larger plates.

Chef-patrons Max Yorke and Julian Pizer commented: “We feel extremely privileged to be offered the opportunity to cook alongside Osma and Baratxuri at Exhibition Manchester. Over the last few years our small 24 cover restaurant has generated a large waitlist and we are excited to showcase our new concept to a wider audience.

"Most importantly, as we make more steps to improve our environmental standards, our food waste systems showed an obvious area in which we could develop. By opening a second kitchen in such a fast paced venue we can take unused produce from Another Hand and even further reduce, and hopefully eradicate, our wastage.”

In November 2022, Another Hand was added to the latest edition of the Michelin Inspectors' Favourite New Restaurants just eight months after opening and not long after the team were awarded the Best Newcomer at the Manchester Food and Drink Awards.

The restaurant was launched by the team behind 3 Hands Deli, a firm lockdown favourite which popped up for a brief time just two units down from where the restaurant now stands. The Guide praised the 'buzzy' restaurant for its "array of delicious sharing plates, made with produce from ethical local growers".

Sustainability has become a large focus of the menu at Another Hand. Produce is sourced from across the Northwest, with the vast majority of ingredients travelling no more than 40 miles, whilst bread from Holy Grain and Chocolate from Dormouse arrive from neighbours just metres away.

It is these sustainable credentials that will also guide its new Persian bread kitchen. Unsold or unused ingredients from Another Hand's flagship will be used at Jaan, with the flatbreads boasting 'ever-changing' seasonal toppings.

On the menu, diners can expect pickled Shetland mussels za'atar crème fraiche lemon; whipped butterbean with charred onion chutney and sumac, and ex-dairy tartare with horseradish, pomegranate, molasses and onion rings. All the smaller plates will be accompanied by a signature flatbread.

Meanwhile, larger plates will consist of slow-cooked lamb shank with Another Hand's delicious ancient grains, plus grilled octopus with nduja, fire-roasted sea trout fatoush salad, and Chermoula chicken broken rice.

Jaan Persian Bread Kitchen will open within Exhibition on 8 May joining Osma and Baratxuri on the venue's restaurant floor. The food hall is located at St George's House, 56 Peter St, Manchester M2 3NQ.
