Part of Mr Khan’s new seat includes Longsight, which the Workers Party picked off in the May local elections, largely attempting to appeal to voters based on Labour’s position on the war in Gaza and Israel.

During his acceptance speech, Mr Khan addressed the issue, saying he would ‘stand up against oppression, particularly in Palestine’. The comment was met with a smattering of applause from assembled supporters in the Manchester Central convention centre.

“It’s an honour to be re-elected,” added Mr Khan. “Having been an MP for eight years I hope my strong track record for being a strong voice for my entire community in Westminster shows.

“I would like to thank everyone who has placed their trust to turn this country around after the Conservatives rode roughshod over our communities.
