Manchester United have confirmed captain Katie Zelem will leave the club this summer following the expiration of her contract.

Zelem joined the Reds for their inaugural season in the Women's Championship in 2018, having previously enjoyed spells at Liverpool and Juventus. She helped United gain promotion to the Women's Super League (WSL) and was handed the armband ahead of the 2019/20 season.

The 28-year-old has made 161 appearances for the club, scoring 32 goals, and was part of the side that won the Women's FA Cup last month. It is understood United held a further year’s option on her contract, but they reportedly opted not to trigger that option

Zelem is one of a number of players set to leave United this summer, with the club having confirmed the departure of striker Lucia Garcia on Wednesday. The Spain international is expected to join Mexican champions Monterey after two seasons at Leigh Sports Village.

Goalkeeper Mary Earps is reportedly set to join Paris Saint-Germain after failing to agree a new United deal, with French outlet Le Parisien stating her exit is set to be announced by the end of the week. Forward Nikita Parris is also out of contract this summer.
