Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong is among three defenders that Manchester United are eyeing as Aaron Wan-Bissaka's replacement, according to a report.

Rudy Galetti has claimed that Frimpong is joined by Jules Kounde and Denzel Dumfries as options for United to replace the former Crystal Palace defender. Both Kounde of Barcelona and Inter Milan's Dumfries have been frequently linked with moves to Old Trafford in recent seasons as part of the recruitment drive in the northwest.

The journalist has reported that Kounde is appreciated for his versatility due to his capabilities at centre-back. In a tweet, he wrote: "#ManUTD, assessments ongoing on the possible Wan Bissaka's replacement.

"As told, #Frimpong - also followed by Bayern and RMFC - is one of the preferred names. #Kounde - appreciated a lot for his versatility to play as a CB - and #Dumfries also on the #MUFC's list."

The MEN reported in February that United were monitoring Bayer Leverkusen defenders Jeremie Frimpong and Edmond Tapsoba. The defensive pairing were shortlisted as potential defensive reinforcements by United last year, with the club holding discussions with Frimpong's representatives. However, Wan-Bissaka's form and the renewal of Diogo Dalot's contract deferred a move for the 23-year-old.

Elsewhere, reports in Spain - namely Mundo Deportivo - have claimed that United are pushing to sign Barcelona wonderkid Mikayil Faye. It has been suggested that figures at Old Trafford are looking at multiple targets in central defence as they look to reinforce the position.

The La Liga giants are in a state of transition as they prepare for the departure of Xavi. However, it has been suggested that sporting director Deco has assured that the 19-year-old has a future in Catalonia.

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, who has come of age at Goodison Park in dire circumstances for the Toffees, has also been mooted with a move across the northwest although United appear to be assessing other options as well.
