Andre Onana

Had an easy afternoon and might have needed a warm down to warm up again after a dormant 70 minutes. Well beatten by Ellis Simms. Denied Callum O'Hare from the spot. 6

Diogo Dalot

Crossed brilliantly for Scott McTominay to open the scoring and brilliantly denied Simms up the other end. Positioning awry when Simms scored, though. Good penalty in the shootout. 7

Harry Maguire

The only centre half with first-team experience available regained his scoring touch with a precise header just before half-time. Soldiered on and United's best player. 8

Deployed at centre back in the absence of the injured Willy Kambwala and coasted through the game. Sprayed the odd quarterback pass but powerless when Coventry got on top. Bad penalty. 5

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Targeted a number of times and Coventry's only chance of the first half came down his side. Deflected in Coventry's second goal. 3

Scott McTominay

Back in the team and back on the scoresheet with his tenth of the season on his first Wembley start for United under Erik ten Hag. As soon as Coventry had a go, McTominay went quiet. 6

Kobbie Mainoo

As composed as you would expect against second tier opposition that barely pressed. Another Wembley outing to remember after his England debut until he was daftly substituted. 7

Alejandro Garnacho

Wasted a good early chance that did not turn out to be costly. His movement flummoxed Coventry at times. Came off in the fifth game running. 6

Bruno Fernandes

Prudent with the ball, crossed for Maguire to score from a corner and went close early in the second half before he scored for the fourth game running. Turned the tide in the shootout. 8

Marcus Rashford

Denied twice by Bradley Collins but the second effort which smacked the woodwork led to the corner United scored from. Faded in second half. 5

Rasmus Hojlund

Blunt again in his fifth successive start for United without a goal. Has undeniably regressed since he got injured in February. A boy among men. But scored the winning penalty. 3

Did nothing of note. 4

Christian Eriksen

Similar to Antony. 4

Offered energy. 6

Omari Forson

Had a shot saved. 6

Picked a logical team and United played and won commandingly against a supine Coventry for 70 minutes until Simms struck. Did not improve United with the substitutions. He has to go. 1
