Manchester United rocked by huge injury blow in Newcastle European battle

Manchester United could be without two key players for Monday night's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace. Erik ten Hag's side are battling with Newcastle United for sixth place in the Premier League, with the two sides set to go head to head at Old Trafford later this month.

Before then, Man United have big games at Palace and then at home to title contenders Arsenal, while Eddie Howe's Magpies must negotiate Saturday's trip to Turf Moor to face Burnley and a home fixture to Brighton at St James' Park.

Much will depend on that Old Trafford showdown on March 15, but both sides will be keen to land maximum points before then. While Newcastle have suffered from terrible injury issues all season, Ten Hag has also had to deal with his fair share of absences.

And now he has revealed both talisman Bruno Fernandes and forward Marcus Rashford are big doubts for the game at Selhurst Park on Monday night.

“After the game against Burnley, we had an issue with Bruno,” said Ten Hag. “He is a doubt for Monday, but we all know Bruno - never rule him out for any game. He will do his best to be available. Jonny Evans returned today for team training. Tomorrow we are off and then two days until the game.

“With Marcus, I can't tell (when he will be back). It was last week, after Coventry, and his issue hasn't healed so far. Anthony Martial was partly in team training. Jonny Evans returned to team training today.”

Newcastle could have Miguel Almiron available for their game at Burnley, with Callum Wilson also continuing his reovery after his goalscoring return against Sheffield United last weekend. However, Howe will still be without Joelinton, Nick Pope, Sandro Tonali, Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman, Joe Willock, Lewis Miley, Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Targett.
