Manchester United stance on Bruno Fernandes future after interview

Erik ten Hag has reiterated Manchester United want to keep Bruno Fernandes despite uncertainty over his future.

Fernandes is generating interest from Inter Milan and Bayern Munich while some United teammates are unsure if he will remain at the club next season.

After United's 3-2 victory over Newcastle, Fernandes said, "I will be here till when the club wants me and the club wants me to be a part of the future. If for some reason they don’t want me, then I will go.”

United have not listed Fernandes among the four players who are not for sale in the summer transfer window and when Ten Hag was asked whether United want to keep or sell Fernandes, he replied. "No, absolutely, the club wants to keep Bruno, it's no question.

"I have to see the interview, maybe it's your interpretation but as far as everything I know from him, he loves Manchester United, he loves the fans from Manchester United and he loves to play for Manchester United, that's all I know.

"You see he always gives his best, he is an example, even through injuries he is always playing, he loves football, he wants to win and that's how I describe his character and I'm very pleased with his performances across the season.

"It's not easy when so many players are injured around him every time and he has to carry the team and for him he keeps a good level, I would even say a high level, especially in the spring, he rose to a brilliant level and I'm very pleased with this."

United won only their third Premier League game in their past 12 as goals from Kobbie Mainoo, Amad and substitute Rasmus Hojlund took them to level on points with Newcastle.

Newcastle remain above United in seventh and Ten Hag's side have to better Newcastle's result this weekend if they are to qualify for the Europa Conference League.

"It is a victory but I was pleased with the performance of the team. It is always difficult to play against Newcastle because they are very physical so we had to match this but also find the right balance by playing football, the rotations. We played football, scored good goals, especially the first, it's a nice team goal and also to the script, and that's very nice to see."
