Luke Shaw is set to miss the FA Cup final after suffering a setback in his recovery from injury, but Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof have returned to training ahead of Manchester United's last Premier League game of the season against Brighton.

Harry Maguire won't be fit for Sunday's game at the Amex but he is on course to make a return for the FA Cup final, but Shaw is now very doubtful for the clash with Manchester City and could miss the European Championship with England set to announce their squad on Tuesday.

Lisandro Martinez trained again on Thursday having made his return against Newcastle on Wednesday and Ten Hag will now check on the fitness of Varane and Lindelof in Saturday's final training session before the trip to the south coast.

"We’re working to bring players back," said Ten Hag. "Licha had a good session now as well, others on the pitch like Rapha, Victor Lindelof, we have to see how far they are on Sunday. Tomorrow we’re off, Saturday we have training."

Ten Hag was also asked about the fitness of Maguire and Shaw, with England naming a provisional squad on Tuesday. The centre-back is in contention to play in the cup final but Shaw has suffered a setback that is set to end his season.

"For England I can’t say but for the cup final we’re working on it," said Ten Hag. "Harry Maguire has a fair chance that he will be available, Luke is more complicated in this moment, let’s say it’s less of a chance he will make it but still a very small chance. He had a setback, now we have to find out how far it is."
