‘The Mandalorian’ Tops List of the Most-Watched Streaming Originals in 2023 | Chart

“Star Wars” reigned supreme on streaming in 2023 as the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian” ranked as the most-watched streaming original in the U.S., according to data compiled by Whip Media. Rankings were determined by streaming original TV series with the greatest share of viewers from Jan. 1 to Nov. 30 of this year, among a balanced panel of U.S. users of the TV Time app.

“The Mandalorian” aired its third season starting in March of this year, and rolled out its eight episodes weekly as viewers were treated to the further adventures of Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin, all while executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni continued to move the “Star Wars” franchise in a direction that skews closer to the mythology-filled territory covered by Filoni’s animated series.

Disney+ held the most spots in Whip Media’s list of the Top 10 most-watched streaming originals of 2023, with the well-received Marvel series “Loki” coming in at No. 2. The second season of the MCU show (the first Marvel Studios series to earn a Season 2) debuted in October and rolled out in weekly installments, culminating in a likely series finale in November. But the continued adventures of Tom Hiddleston’s anti-hero enraptured viewers as the show leaned into the unfolding multiverse storyline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel’s “Secret Invasion” came in at No. 7 and the “Star Wars” spinoff “Ahsoka” landed at No. 8, but it was the final season of Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso” that secured the No. 3 spot, followed by Netflix’s juicy serial killer drama “You” at No. 4 and Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” at No. 5.

Rounding out the Top 10 was the latest season of Netflix’s “Black Mirror” at No. 6, FX/Hulu’s critically acclaimed “The Bear” at No. 8 and Netflix’s “The Witcher” at No. 10 as Henry Cavill said farewell to the fantasy series after two seasons.

The full list of the 30 most-watched series of 2023 is dominated by Netflix with 11 shows, including the YA favorite “Ginny & Georgia” and the thriller “The Night Agent” (which, according to Netflix’s own metrics, was the streamer’s most-watched show of the year).

Prime Video secured five spots on the list, including the final seasons of “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” starring John Krasinski and Emmy-winning “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”

Apple TV+ had four shows on Whip Media’s list, including the Harrison Ford/Jason Segel comedy “Shrinking” and “The Morning Show,” as well as the Rebecca Ferguson-fronted sci-fi series “Silo” at No. 15. That show is currently in production on a second season.

Peacock’s acclaimed case-of-the-week series “Poker Face,” starring Natasha Lyonne,” landed at No. 27 and has also been renewed for a second season.

Two canceled shows scored spots on the list: Netflix’s “Shadow and Bone” at No. 24 and Hulu’s “How I Met Your Father” at No. 26. Both debuted second seasons this year, but won’t be moving forward with additional episodes.
