Manhattan Apartment Flooded as Record Setting Rainfall Hits New York City

Rainwater flooded an apartment in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan, as the National Weather Service (NWS) reported record daily rainfall across New York City on September 29.

Video recorded by Vivian Kamin shows the damaging flooding inside her boyfriend’s roommate’s bedroom, amidst a NWS flood warning for the area.

“He woke up and stepped into six inches of water,” Kamin told Storyful. “As the day progressed and the storm continued, the water continued to rise, until it reached his bed.”

New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley amid the heavy downpours on Friday.
