Women are the “unsung hero” of the grill, according to new research, conducted by Talker Research for PERDUE. The survey of 2,000 men and women revealed that 53% believe women are not receiving the notice or the praise they deserve for their grill skills. And men and women agree: that stat (53%) remains true regardless of gender. One reason they might not be getting the recognition they deserve? Research revealed half of the respondents — 55% of men and 47% of women — believe grilling is a male-dominated activity.

Latvian couple become first to register same-sex partnership under new law
Maksims Ringo and Janis Locs became the first Latvian same-sex couple to register their partnership on Monday, shortly after midnight when a new law came into force. After the event at a legal office in Riga's historic centre, the couple exchanged silver rings at a party in the city's main library and hope to get gold rings if and when Latvia legalises same-sex marriage, Ringo said. "We are together for five and a half years ... so for us, it's mostly practical", said Ringo, noting improved hospital visiting rights for example under the new law.

Sweden launched a groundbreaking new law on Monday that allows grandparents to step in and get paid parental leave while taking care of their grandchildren for up to three months of a child’s first year. The development comes after the Swedish parliament, the 349-seat Riksdag, approved last December the government’s proposal on transfer of parental allowance. This comes 50 years after the Scandinavian country became the first in the world to introduce paid parental leave for fathers and not just mothers.
