Swimmer Films Close Encounter With Bobcat in Florida

A bobcat moseyed by a man lounging near a pool at a condo complex in Naples, Florida, on Tuesday, May 7.

Florida resident Kevin Mario, who captured this footage, told Storyful he was excited, but stayed calm during the encounter.

“I know they can get aggressive if threatened,” Mario said. “She looked very hungry and tired. We had eye contact at all times.”

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), seeing a bobcat during the day is not uncommon because they only sleep for two to three hours at a time.

While bobcats can help control rodent populations, the FWC urges residents to prevent the animal from becoming comfortable around humans by securing possible food sources, not directly feeding the big cats, properly penning small livestock, and keeping an eye on small domestic pets.
