Manchester United have yet to make a signing this summer.

Tom Heaton has extended his contract, while six players - including Jadon Sancho - have returned from loan spells away from Old Trafford. However, not one new player has come through the doors as Erik ten Hag bides his time before adding any more names to his squad, who began pre-season training at Carrington on Monday.

Dan Ashworth and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are said to be working behind-the-scenes and finalising summer transfer plans. Joshua Zirkzee has emerged as their first-choice forward target as they look to add another attacker to their ranks. The 23-year-old impressed while at Bologna last season, scoring 12 goals in 37 appearances.

Elsewhere, United are looking to strengthen at the back. With that in mind, MEN Sport has taken a look at the latest United news and gossip that has been doing the rounds in the last 24 hours.

United consider Chilwell move

United are 'considering' a move for Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell, according to a report by the Mail. The Reds are expected to consider the addition of a new left-back this summer after being without Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia for large chunks of the 2023/24 season.

The report states that Chilwell, formerly of Leicester City, is 'among the options they are considering'. The 27-year-old had an injury hit second half of the season, but even before that, he seemed out of favour with Mauricio Pochettino, with Marc Cucurella and Ian Maatsen often preferred.

MEN says: United need to sign a new left-back, that is for sure - but one that is reliable and has a good injury record. Unfortunately, Chilwell does not tick either of them boxes.

On his day, he is one of the best full-backs in the Premier League; there is no doubt about that. But over the past couple of years, Chilwell has simply not been able to stay fit for an entire season. In fact, the last time he made over 30 league appearances in a single campaign was in 2018/19 when he was at Leicester.

It would not be a horrible move to allow Chilwell a chance to prove himself at United, but they should instead go for someone who is more likely to play every single week and has a better injury record, especially given Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia's struggles last season.

Guehi to reject Palace contract

According to a report by The Sun, United and Arsenal are on 'high alert' as Marc Guehi is 'set to reject' a new contract offer at Crystal Palace.

The centre-back has been arguably England's best player at the European Championship, and his stock is on the rise. Palace are keen to tie him down to a new deal, but he is reportedly set to turn down their offer. The former Chelsea is contracted at Selhurst Park until 2026.

MEN says: Marc Guehi has been a consistent performer in the Premier League for three years now, and he has excelled for England at Euro 2024, showing his capabilities at the very highest level. It does feel like it could be the perfect time for Guehi to leave Palace and test himself elsewhere.

There might not be any better fit than a move to United for Guehi this summer, as Erik ten Hag's side does need to strengthen in that area of the pitch. More importantly, you sometimes forget how young Guehi still is. He turns 24 next week and is yet to reach his prime age, meaning he has even more potential to improve. United could do far worse than going for Guehi and testing Palace's waters with a big bid.
