Marcia Gay Harden to Receive 2024 North Fork TV Festival’s Canopy Award (EXCLUSIVE)

Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden has been selected as this year’s recipient of the North Fork TV Festival’s Canopy Award.

An accolade for a member of the New York television community whose “persistence and integrity, bound by the twin spirits of independence and collaboration, stoke the creative ambitions of diverse people who have important stories to tell,” the Canopy Award will be presented to Harden on Aug. 28 during this year’s North Fork TV Festival at a formal ceremony at The Halyard at the Sound View Greenport in Greenport, New York.

The ceremony will feature a conversation between Harden and Variety’s Senior Business Writer, TV and Video Games Jennifer Maas, with an audience Q&A to follow.

Known for her roles in films including “Sinatra,” “Pollock” (for which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress), “Mystic River” (for which she was Oscar-nominated in the same category), Harden most recently starred on the now-ended CBS dramedy “So Help Me Todd” alongside Skylar Astin.

Other current projects include starring opposite Michael Keaton and Al Pacino in “Knox Goes Away,” released in theaters in March, and reprising her Emmy-nominated role on the latest season of “The Morning Show” alongside Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon on Apple TV+.

“We are absolutely thrilled to present the Canopy Award to the immensely talented Academy Award-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden,” North Fork TV Festival founder Noah Doyle said. “Her extraordinary contributions to the world of film and television embody the spirit of excellence we celebrate at the North Fork TV Festival. We couldn’t be more excited to honor her achievements and welcome her to our festival this year.”

Founded in 2015, the North Fork TV Festival is held annually in Greenport, New York. Each year, an expert panel selects four independent pilots to be screened at the nonprofit organization’s festival and additionally mentored through development and eventual production of the pilots into on-air series.

This year’s two-day festival will take place Aug. 27-28 and feature Harden’s award ceremony, as well as special screenings and in-depth panels such as “How Do You Cast a TV Series?” with casting director Jessica Daniels, moderated by actor Max Jenkins.

In previous years, the North Fork TV Festival has welcomed actors including Kelsey Grammer, Chris Noth, Bridget Moynahan, Aida Tuturro, Carrie Preston (the recipient of the 2023 Canopy Award) and Constance Wu.

Tickets are currently on sale for this year’s festival. Full schedule to be announced at a later date.
