Marcus Rashford transfer would deliver Manchester United massive FFP pure profit boost

Manchester United are conscious that potentially selling academy graduates will produce a 'pure profit' boost to their compliance with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Anthony Elanga was an example of that last summer, leaving for a fee in the region of £15million after almost a decade at United. Dean Henderson followed suit on transfer deadline day in a deal that could rise as high as £20million.

Matej Kovar and Zidane Iqbal also departed for around £9million. The previous summer, Andreas Pereira, James Garner and Tahith Chong brought in the best part of £30million, including the latter's subsequent sell-on fee.

Marcus Rashford could now become the next name on that list after United have refused to rule out possibly selling the forward. The club could expect to receive a transfer fee of around £80million for the player, who still has four years remaining on the £325,000-a-week contract extension signed last summer.

Paris Saint-Germain are known to admire Rashford and have yet to replace Kylian Mbappe. After his departure to Real Madrid as a free agent, PSG are among the increasingly few clubs that could afford the player's wages.

While the club, financially, do not need to shed that salary or sell the player full-stop, starting a new financial year by bringing in a high eight-figure fee would be welcome. With any revenue from selling Rashford representing 'pure profit' after coming through the club's academy, that amount counting towards United's PSR compliance for the next three years could make a difference to their future transfer business.

The only players who command a similar profit would be Alejandro Garnacho or Kobbie Mainoo, who the club cannot countenance parting with. But that stance is not shared regarding Rashford, meaning it is the best opportunity for United to take if they choose to.
