Margot Robbie is taking it back to the 60s!

The actress, 33, was the epitome of elegance in a retro Barbie-inspired look at the Gotham Awards in New York City on Monday night. Robbie wore a black strapless dress and sheer cape with a bow at the neckline by fashion house Prada. Her look was inspired by 1964 Barbie from the Black Magic Ensemble collection.

But the star — who played the doll in the hit summer film — says she couldn't play favorites or pick her best Barbie.

“I don't know about my favorite,” Robbie tells PEOPLE. “But this look was Ruth Handler, the creator of Barbies, favorite Barbie look," she reveals. "This is a Barbie from 1964 and Ruth Handler said it was her favorite.”

The Wolf of Wall Street star paired her outfit with black Manolo Blahnik peep-toe heels and black leather gloves. She also held onto a gold clutch and wore pearl earrings as she walked the star-studded red carpet alongside her husband of six years, Tom Ackerley.

While promoting the Barbie movie — which also starred Ryan Gosling — Robbie wore an assortment of looks referencing different Barbies throughout the years.

In July, Robbie spoke to PEOPLE about collaborating with stylist Andrew Mukamal on their Barbie-inspired looks and the vision they shared when recreating each outfit.

“We're finding Barbie references from decades past and just doing it really for the big Barbie fans out there, people who are actually collecting those Barbies,” Robbie said at the world premiere of the film in Los Angeles. “We're hoping to get them excited. We're pairing Barbie references with great designers.”
