Producing “Monopoly” alongside Robbie are her partners Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara. The upcoming “Monopoly” movie will also be produced by Hasbro Entertainment for Lionsgate, which extended its development rights to the board game adaptation after its December 2023 purchase of eOne. Hasbro had originally intended to develop a “Monopoly” movie that would star Kevin Hart.

No plot details, casting, or release date plans were announced on Wednesday.

The news comes shortly after LuckyChap announced a “Sims” movie on the heels of the blockbuster “Barbie” success and Oscar nominations.

The Hasbro board game, available in more than 100 countries, has sold nearly half a billion copies going back to 1935. Monopoly has been adapted into countless versions inspired by different brands, locations, and more beyond the original Atlantic City locations from Baltic Avenue to Boardwalk. And now it’s being adapted in a movie.

“Monopoly is a top property – pun fully intended,” LuckyChap co-founders Robbie, Ackerley, and McNamara said in a statement. “Like all of the best IP, this game has resonated worldwide for generations, and we are so excited to bring this game to life alongside the wonderful teams involved at Lionsgate and Hasbro.”

Adam Fogelson, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair, added, “I could not imagine a better production team for this beloved and iconic brand than LuckyChap. They are exceptional producers who choose their projects with great thought and care, and join Monopoly with a clear point of view. We are tremendously excited to be working with the entire LuckyChap team on what we all believe can be their next blockbuster.”

Zev Foreman, Head of Film for Hasbro Entertainment, said in a statement, “As one of the most iconic games in the world, Monopoly provides an incredible platform for storytelling opportunities. We are thrilled to have the unique vision of LuckyChap and Lionsgate alongside us to bring this historic piece of popular culture to the big screen.”

James Myers is overseeing “Monopoly” on behalf of the studio, with Robert Melnik leading the studio’s dealmaking.

Hasbro Entertainment has more than 30 active projects in development. Other upcoming titles include the animated “Transformers One” directed by Josh Cooley and starring Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, and Jon Hamm, as well as a live-action “Dungeons & Dragons” series for Paramount+.

Robbie’s LuckyChap also recently produced Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn” and “My Old Ass,” the latter of which sold to Amazon MGM out of Sundance. Her upcoming projects as a producer include the new “Pirates of the Caribbean” feature and an “Ocean’s” franchise prequel. LuckyChap also inked a multi-year first look feature film deal with “Barbie” studio Warner Bros.
