American Horror Story: Asylum very nearly starred Margot Robbie.

Now one of Hollywood's hottest properties and the recipient of two Oscar nominations, the Australian actress auditioned for the anthology hit's second season a few years before playing Naomi Lapaglia in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street.

Casting director for AHS Eric Dawson told Backstage: "Margot has a lot of 'it' factors. That's the tough thing for casting directors who aren't in the room [anymore] with actors.

"Margot is probably one of my favourite auditions of all-time, and it was right before she broke out. She was such a star. It was crazy, her star appeal when she walked in the room."

"Even though she didn't get that role, that was one of those things as a casting director where you go: 'This is a star, what do we do with her?'" Dawson further recalled.

"Immediately, though, she was out of our realm of possibility of hiring. But that's really the fun part of casting, is seeing the people whose careers are just rising."

Fast forward to now and Robbie is producing her own projects, including this summer's sensational Barbie featuring herself in the title role and Ryan Gosling as Ken.

Apparently, she had a favour to ask director Greta Gerwig before production started.

"The first thing I said to Greta when we first sat down and talked about the movie [was] 'I'll follow your vision. Whatever you want this Barbie movie to be, let's do that. Except I just have one favour...'" she revealed to Kelly Clarkson.

"'Please, please, please can we have a Dreamhouse where she has a slide that goes from her bedroom down to her pool, because that is my goal in life.'"

American Horror Story airs on FX in the US and Disney+ in the UK, where seasons 1-9 are also available to buy on Prime Video.
