In June, Sharapova spoke with PEOPLE about how tennis helped her understand the power of a schedule ahead of welcoming her son.

"I think in some ways there were so many elements of my sport that I could I apply into motherhood," she told PEOPLE.

"Just the discipline of the schedules and routines and seeing the benefit of that through their behavior and through their eyes has also been really helpful. When I was playing, knowing where I was going to be and when I was going to nap and when I was going to eat helped me so much with my energy."

"We try our best!" she said, noting that she and her husband travel a lot and have found routines helpful, but sometimes it just doesn't happen.

"He's constantly evolving into new phases, so I feel like just when you've settled into a certain routine, it can go out the window," she said. "So you're constantly adjusting to new circumstances, new developmental stages. You just have to acknowledge it changes all the time."

After welcoming her son in 2022, Sharapova spoke with PEOPLE about how new parenthood had been going, noting that every day was something new.

"Every single week you learn something new about them, about their personality," she shared. "Although it's a full-time job, it's also just so gratifying to see this little human grow and to express himself and to share your moments with him when he's awake. It's all very special."

She was also candid about how difficult her breastfeeding experience had been. "You really don't know much about what you're doing and then you just figure it out. And then, in the end, it's all okay."

"I think it's more of the scheduling that's tricky. It's so many times a day," added Sharapova.
