Mariners beat Adelaide 1-0 in elimination final

GOSFORD, Australia (AP) — Nigerian-born forward Bernie Ibini's 67th-minute goal gave Central Coast Mariners a 1-0 win Saturday over Adelaide United and a place in the A-League semifinals.

The Mariners will play Western Sydney Wanderers next Saturday in Sydney. Melbourne Victory, who beat Sydney FC 2-1 Friday, plays first-place Brisbane next Sunday in the Queensland state capital, with the winners to play in the Australian grand final on May 4.

Before Saturday's match, there was a minute of silence observed for 20-year-old Australia forward Dylan Tombides, who died Friday after a two-year battle with testicular cancer.

Tombides, a former under-22 player for Australia, broke into West Ham United's first-team squad in England's Premier League while receiving treatment.

Players on both A-League teams Saturday wore black armbands to honor Tombides.
