Mario Goetze selling his World Cup-winning boot in amazing gesture for charity
Germany star to auction off the boot which made World Cup history for Germany.
It is, according to German newspaper Bild, “the most famous shoe in the world”, and it could be yours.
In a wonderful gesture, Mario Goetze has announced he is auctioning off the boot which won the World Cup for Germany this summer.
The Bayern Munich playmaker scored the only goal of the game as Germany triumphed over Argentina in Rio and the Nike boot which volleyed the ball into the corner of the net is now up for grabs.
Rather than keeping the historic item in a display case in his home, Goetze has decided to put it up for auction, all for Germany charity Ein Herz fur Kinder (A Heart for Children).
“I have never washed the shoe,” Goetze told Bild. “It is still in the same condition as it was in Rio, when I left the stadium with it.
“There is still grass on it. I have never put the boot on after the final. I kept it safe at my house.“

Interest in the boot in Germany is bound to be fevered, given Goetze’s strike gave the country their first triumph since reunification.
He says he has fielded plenty of interest in the item but resisted all of them so he can help out a charity in need.
“I was often asked, many were interested,” Goetze said. For example, sponsors, other companies and friends.
“The one who makes the largest donation to A Heart for Children in the seven days before the TV gala gets my World Cup boot!”
