Mark Wahlberg opens first retail store for Municipal clothing brand

Mark Wahlberg has opened the first permanent retail store for his clothing brand Municipal.

The Boogie Nights actor, who co-founded the sportswear brand almost four years ago, celebrated its new retail space on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles in an Instagram video.

Speaking to the camera outside the shop, Mark said, "Do you know the saying, 'Dream, plan, hustle, repeat'? Right here... we got retail baby, right here on Melrose. 8609 Melrose. Want to come and see us? You want to feel the drip on the strip, experience the drip. Right here baby!"

Mark, wearing a white Municipal T-shirt and matching baseball cap, then walked into the store for its launch party.

The Los Angeles shop marks the first permanent retail base for the athletic and performance-wear company following a temporary pop-up in New York City.

"It is very important for us to have a place where people can see the brand in its entirety," Harry Arnett, one of Municipal's co-founders and the brand's chief executive officer, told WWD. "It's about the experience to touch and feel and live within the context of the brand."

Wahlberg and Arnett are planning to open a concept store in Carlsbad, California in August followed by more outlets in Las Vegas, Phoenix, Atlanta, Boston and New York over the next few years.

"I had done collaborations and partnerships in the past with Nike and Adidas, but I always wanted to do my own brand," Mark said. "I was talking to multiple people about that and then I connected with Harry."

The duo, who met on a golf course in Carlsbad 15 years ago, have expanded Municipal's offering since its launch in 2020. After debuting with men's sportswear, Municipal now sells footwear and womenswear and will soon be rolling out eyewear, golf bags and men's grooming products.
