Mark Wright criticised for dressing up as rapper 6ix9ine, who was convicted of child sex offence

Mark Wright has been criticised on social media after he dressed up as rapper 6ix9ine, who was convicted of a child sex crime, for Halloween.

6ix9ine — whose real name is Daniel Hernandez — was sentenced to four years probation in 2015 after admitting a felony count of using a child in a sexual performance, relating to a video of a 13-year-old girl.

He has also admitted domestic violence against a former partner and served more than a year in prison after admitting charges including conspiracy to commit murder and armed robbery, while testifying against gang members.

Wright shared several pictures of himself sporting 6ix9ine's colourful hair, jewellery and range of tattoos, captioning the post with "Happy Halloween" and tagging the rapper.

Wright received dozens of negative responses to his costume on social media and has now disabled comments on the original Instagram post he shared with his 1.8 million followers.

Yahoo Entertainment UK has contacted a representative for Wright for comment.

On Twitter, one user posted Wright's photo alongside a screenshot of 6ix9ine's Wikipedia page, highlighting his numerous legal problems.

"Feel like this is a massive own goal by Mark Wright," they wrote.

6ix9ine rose to fame in 2017 when his debut single Gummo became a sleeper hit. It is now certified twice platinum in the USA.

In 2020, he released his third collaboration with Nicki Minaj, topping the Billboard Hot 100 with Trollz, which also reached number 12 on the UK Singles Chart.

But despite his chart success, he has been dogged by legal issues and controversy around his public persona.

He has also been a part of numerous celebrity feuds, most notably accusing Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande of purchasing 30,000 copies of their single Stuck with U in 2020 in order to force it to number one.

Bieber and Grande both denied the allegations.
