Marks and Spencer has apologised afters its website was plagued by technical issues today, leaving it offline for a number of hours. The upmarket supermarket's website on Saturday afternoon, read: "Please bear with us. Sorry you can’t shop with us right now. We’re working hard to be back online as soon as possible."

Meanwhile, the M&S app was also unavailable to use, members of the public reported. Some took to social media to flag the issue, with M&S responding on X: "We’re experiencing some technical issues but we are working on it."

It comes after Sainsbury's shoppers were last month hit with a technical hitch which meant that orders failed to arrive. The chain at the time blamed a 'technical issue' for disruption.

And today's M&S issue arises just days before the firm is expected to jump in annual profits following a bumper year.
