Yahoo News Married at First Sight star Alyssa never actually applied for the show
Married at First Sight Australia's Alyssa Barmonde is one of the breakout newlyweds from the latest season of the reality TV juggernaut, but she never actually applied to be on it.
Speaking to Cosmopolitan, Alyssa revealed that a big chunk of the show's cast don't actually apply to be on it, with the producers going to them instead.
"I was actually scouted for MAFS via my Instagram," she explained. "A lot of people aren’t aware that probably half of us are scouted.
"I was a bit hesitant at first, but thought to myself, 'What's the worst that could happen? If I am true to myself and wear my heart on my sleeve, they will surely show the real story.'

Now that the dust has settled on the show, Alyssa feels like she wasn't represented well in the edit (something she's said before).
"I never in a million years would have expected for them to twist the entire story into a new reality," she continued. "Yes, I knew it would be edited, but I don't think people realise how much."
Looking back, she says that she wishes she was a bit more savvy about reality TV and acted more in a way that wouldn't be edited in the way that it was.

"I wish I knew what I was getting myself into. I thought if I was honest with myself and unapologetically me, it would come across," she said. "I almost wish I had a strategy, and to carefully say things the 'right' way and act a certain way. But that wouldn't be true to myself.
"I learned so much about myself, how strong and resilient I am."
Married at First Sight UK airs on E4 in the UK. Married at First Sight Australia airs on Nine Network in Australia and E4 in the UK.
