Marti Cifuentes makes Leeds United 'X-factor' point as QPR chase Championship survival

It is second versus 18th in the Championship tonight as Leeds United visit Queens Park Rangers. There is plenty at stake for both teams in their penultimate fixture of a gruelling season.

While the Whites are desperate for the points to give themselves more valuable breathing room over promotion rivals Ipswich Town, QPR enter the clash knowing a win will guarantee their survival. R's head coach Marti Cifuentes has called on his players to stop United's "X-factor" forwards from producing the goods at Loftus Road.

"My approach has always been the same, to try and win the game and that will never change," Cifuentes said. “We show respect to every side but we will look to get the points we want.

“It is always a big challenge to play against big teams, with experienced managers but we are looking forward to facing that challenge. They (Leeds) have a lot of talent in their team, young players with X factor.

"We know that if we want to get something from this game we have to deliver our best performance otherwise there's not chance for us."

QPR took a giant step towards retaining their Championship status, beating Preston North End on their own turf last time out. “The reality is we are still in need of points to achieve our target,” said Cifuentes.

“The fans have been fantastic, you can look at how many games we have sold out to see just how amazing they have been,” he said.

“It is our job to reward their support with strong performances. There is definitely that feeling that we want to have celebrations with our supporters after the game, but our focus is purely on the match and how we can overcome a good side.”
