Martin Compston had a hilarious response to seeing his face on a billboard in Times Square.

The Line of Duty star responded to a tweet that showed him as DI Steve Arnott in the BBC drama on a giant advertising hoarding in the iconic New York tourist attraction.

One Scottish fan tweeted Compston a picture of the billboard in the iconic capital city location with the caption:

“Didn’t expect to see @martin_compston’s puss in Times Square. Big time.”

To which Greenock-born Compston replied:

“Probably less chance of a c**k and b***s drawn on me like my first ever billboard at Barr’s cottage Greenock, but equally a proud moment.”

Barr’s Cottage is a small area in the Scottish county of Inverclyde.

Fans are often left gobsmacked by Compston’s real-life Scottish accent after disguising to play the English-accented Arnott.

The billboard comes as the newest series of the BBC drama became available for US fans to watch on streaming platform Britbox.

The tweet was met with equally humorous responses with one tweeting:

“Possibly the first time in history that Barr’s Cottage has been mentioned in the same context as Times Square. Let’s hope it isn’t the last.”
