Martin Dubravka delivers fresh Newcastle United transfer update after Euro 2024 heartbreak

Martin Dubravka has broken his silence on his Newcastle United future after Eddie Howe added two new goalkeepers to his squad as the Slovakian crashed out of Euro 2024.

Dubravka's status on Tyneside is unclear after the revamp in the shot-stopping department as clubs circle for his signature this summer. At present, it looks as though the 35-year-old will be leaving St James' Park.

Dubravka, however, wants to speak with Newcastle boss Howe before clarifying where he will be playing his football next season. “I have no idea. I have seen they are talking with other goalkeepers,” he told the Daily Mail out in Germany over the weekend.

“I need to speak with the manager first. What is the plan for me? What is my future? I don’t know if they want me to stay or not. It is difficult for me, because I have been focussed on my job with the national team.”

Dubravka pulled no punches before Euro 2024 last month, hitting out at speculation he was set to leave the Magpies as he put his full focus into the international campaign with Slovakia. His side were knocked out by England over the weekend in Gelsenkirchen.

Around the same time, Newcastle added two fresh faces to the goalkeeping ranks, signing Greek stopper Odysseas Vlachodimos as part of the move that saw Elliot Anderson depart for Nottingham Forest and John Ruddy on a free transfer following his Birmingham City exit.

Howe currently has a total of five goalkeepers in his senior side: Dubravka, Vlachodimos, Ruddy, Nick Pope and Mark Gillespie. The club have previously tracked Giorgi Mamardashvili of Valencia and James Trafford of Burnley.

As for Dubravka, Celtic have expressed their interest as they seek to replace retired No 1 Joe Hart. Clubs in Saudi Arabia and Germany have also been tracking the Toon veteran.
