Martin Lewis has flagged a new way for Sainsbury's shoppers to make savings, even when spending as little as £1. Writing in his weekly Money Saving Expert's Money Tips newsletter, he's flagged that the big name supermarket chain is currently running a limited-time promotion, and all you need is a Nectar card to benefit.

Unlike most offers of this type, where you have to buy specific items, all you need to do here is spend £1 or more at a time in a few separate transactions, reports Money Saving Expert. Called the 'Nectar Shop for Points Challenge', the deal comes after supermarket rival Tesco's announcement of a similar 'Clubcard Challenges' promo, which is also running this month.

It's important to note that not all nectar members can take part in this promotion. Although open to millions of customers, eligibility is based on a range of factors.

To check whether you're eligible, head to your Nectar app. If you've been chosen to take part, you should be able to see the following message: "Fancy bagging bonus points? Shop 5x at Sainsbury's and bag bonus Nectar points, it's as simple as that."

If you don't see the promo, try updating your app and checking again, as some users have reported this worked for them. If you qualify, you'll need to opt in to take part.

To get the extra points once opted in, you need to spend just £1 or more at a time in store or online at Sainsbury's. This includes most groceries, though there are some exclusions such as spirits, liqueurs, tobacco and baby milk products.

The offer will run until Tuesday, June 4, with online orders having to be delivered before this date to qualify. The number of bonus points on offer varies for each customer, but you could earn hundreds of extra points worth up to a few quid to spend at Sainsbury's, Argos, eBay and more.
