Martin Lewis' MSE issues warning and says 'if you bank with Nationwide'

Martin Lewis' Money Saving Expert has warned Nationwide customers to check if they qualify for the £100 loyalty bonus. In a guide online, MSE reports: "If you bank with Nationwide, you could get a free £100 paid into your account over the coming weeks as part of the building society's returning 'Fairer Share' scheme.

"The bonus will be paid to millions of its current account customers who also have savings or a mortgage with it." You must have a Nationwide current account to qualify and you must have used your current account earlier this year.

You must ALSO have had savings OR a mortgage with Nationwide in March 2024. The money will be paid directly into your Nationwide current account between Thursday 13 June and Friday 28 June and will appear on your statement as 'Nationwide Fairer Share Payment'.

But urging people to look out for scams, MSE warned: "You DON'T need to do anything – watch out for scams inviting you to claim or apply for the payment or asking you to hand over your personal details." Nationwide intends to make the payment annually, providing it would not be detrimental to the Society’s financial strength and subject to Board approval, and hopes as many members as possible are eligible for the reward in the future.

To be a qualifying current account, your account must have been open on 31 March 2024. Qualifying members must still have a current account in June. You will have had qualifying savings if you had at least £100 in total in one or more personal savings accounts or cash ISAs with Nationwide at the end of any day in March 2024.

To be a qualifying mortgage, you must owe us at least £100 on your Nationwide residential mortgage on 31 March 2024, the building society - which is the UK's largest - also explains.
