Martin Lewis says 'I'm delighted to tell you' as he issues General Election update

Martin Lewis has said he is "delighted" as he issued a General Election announcement. The BBC Sounds podcast host spoke out on Twitter, now X, on the same week his ITV The Martin Lewis Money Show returned from 8pm on Tuesday night.

Ahead of the July 4 General Election, Mr Lewis said: "I'm delighted to tell you all 7 main parties how now confirmed they will take part in the MoneySavingExpert leaders debate. Where we put key consumer finance questions to them all (in writing) and they tell us their policy.

"I've just finalised the 15 questions with the team - thanks for all the suggestions." In reply, a Twitter/X user said: "When is it? Are you chairing? Hope you have a switch to turn them off to stop them interrupting /not stopping.."

"Hope one is about standing charges for electricity in the North of England. 68p per day! Shocking" another said. "Brilliant," agreed another. And another said: "I hope that you’ll be including a question about how they plan to help the 3.8 million people who were #excluded from support during Covid. Many of them are still struggling, some are being chased by HMRC to pay taxes when they spent their tax funds just trying to survive."

"Any chance you could make it a condition with at least one question that they HAVE TO answer without referring to another party? Make them tell us what they will offer, not just what they want us to think about the other parties," another wrote.

"Hope it not too late for questions, need to know what is there stand on 50s women getting what is owed to them and not some paltry compensation amount," another commented. Another said: "This will probably be the only leaders debate worth watching. With an interviewer that has detailed knowledge of the topics he’s asking about."
