Martin Lewis says 'never' and refuses to wade into controversial 'subject area'

Martin Lewis has said "never" as he defended himself over not wading into the climate crisis. The BBC and ITV star was responding to a tweet in the wake of hm promoting his pensions Money Saving Expert newsletter, which was published this week.

Mr Lewis said: "I don't think I wrote this tweet in a particularly appealing way, however there's a lot of easy, key info, for anyone thinking about their pensions including finding lost pensions, consolidation, boosting state pension and more. Do have a quick scan down the list of 19 points..."

In reply, a follower said: "When will you be covering the climate crisis and it's potential impact on long term savings like pensions?" In reply, Mr Lewis said: "Almost certainly never as it is not my subject area - i will leave it to those who have an expertise on it"

In his initial tweet, the Money Saving Expert founder had said: "New. My 19 ways to pump your pension - Tips, tricks & must-knows to protect & boost savings possibly by £10,000s for, and in, retirement..."

In reply, a fan asekd: "My pension forecast says I need to top up 6 years. Am I right in thinking I don’t need to do this now as I’ll still be able to buy them after the April 25 deadline? I’m 56 and may decide to work some more years so don’t really want to buy them yet….."

"Depends which years if its 2006 - 2019 you can only buy them until 5 April 2025. Do read my guide or listen to my pod where I take you through it. :)" Mr Lewis replied. Another said: "Hi Martin, when you talk about travel money you never seem to mention my favourite hack - Santander Everyday current a/c as a pre-paid card for ATM withdrawls at their machines in Spain - no costly ATM owner fees and nothing to stop taking small amounts at a time for security."

"The Government Gateway said it can't confirm my identity so I can't check my NI record. What do I do next please?" another asked. Another said: "Thanks for your advice. As a grandparent I've posted my form today to claim NI for the past 7 years. What's the timescale at HMRC to deal with this. I get my first state pension payment in June."

"How unfair is it when a wife has stayed at home and will lose out on years of NH contributions so pension will be short yet someone who’s lived on benefits for 40 years will have them payed so therefore get full pension entitlement," another said.
