Martin Lewis, the Money Saving Expert and BBC Sounds podcast host, has shared a tip that could see bank account holders bagging a free £100.

The financial guru highlighted the opportunity in his latest newsletter for those with specific savings accounts.

In his Money Saving Expert email, Mr Lewis pointed out that by putting £10,000 into a Hargreaves Lansdown active savings account, customers could earn themselves a £100 bonus.

He detailed how Hargreaves Lansdown's savings marketplace works, allowing individuals to save with different banks through one online platform, as reported by Birmingham Live.

MSE advises savers to open a new Hargreaves Lansdown account, deposit £10,000 within 60 days, and keep it there for at least six months to get the cashback, reports the Express.

But those interested need to act swiftly, as the offer is only available until June 30. Despite the enticing bonus, MSE notes that the interest rate on the account isn't among the best on the market.

Depositing exactly £10,000 means the bonus effectively increases the interest rate by an extra one percent annually. MSE commented: "While it misses the very top picks, if you put exactly £10,000 in, the bonus effectively adds one per cent over a year. As its current top easy-access savings is 4.72 percent and one-year fix is over five percent, add one percentage point to those and they smash the best buys."

Chase Bank is currently leading with an unbeatable easy-access rate of 5.01 percent, while Oxbury tops the charts with the highest fixed rate at 5.22 per cent for a six-month term, as detailed in this week's newsletter.
