Martin Lewis has issued an urgent warning to homeowners across Scotland and the rest of the UK. It comes following the recent closure of a prominent double-glazing company.

The Money Saving Expert shared updates about Everest 2020's fall into administration on his X account, formerly Twitter. As reported by Birmingham Live, he tweeted: "Double glazing firm Everest 2020 falls into administration, your rights.."

He continued: "Everest, also referred to as 'Everest 2020', collapsed into administration on Wednesday 24 April 2024, with business advisory firm ReSolve brought in to supervise the process. No buyer could be found for the complete business, resulting in most of Everest's employees being made redundant, although certain assets are set to be sold off to competitor Anglian Home Improvements."

One concerned follower responded to Martin's tweet by advising others: "By the way - if you are worried about this possibility when a company offers 'X year guarantee' ask them if the guarantee is insured. We recently had our roof redone on a guarantee and it includes 3rd party insurance, in case they go under. Hindsight is 20/20.."

Adding their own unfortunate experience with the company, another customer vented: "No surprise. We once called for a quote for a composite door. He googled our address and told us "they're very expensive, you know. I've googled your address, and I just want to check. Are you sure you can afford it?"

"He had basically judged us on our address... (1/),", a second resident commented.

"You'd hope you'd be insulated from any issues here ....," another customer shared. "I'm assuming they were part of FENSHA so customers old and new should be covered," speculated a third.

"And back again in a month but no liability for the customers and suppliers they've stiffed. Everest used to be a trusted name and now its lower than the dogs doodahs," ranted a third.

Everest is now not accepting new orders leaving over 1,500 clients with unfulfilled orders, according to data from administrators ReSolve.

That said, a subcontracting deal has been done with Anglian to guarantee existing orders are completed. Anglian will be getting in touch with customers in "the coming days and weeks" confirming order specifics and arranging fulfilment.
