Marvel to make “Cloak and Dagger” Television Series!

Exciting news for comic book fans today as Variety has revealed that Marvel is going to create another new television series to form part of the ever growing Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The series, Cloak and Dagger will focus on two teenage heroes - Tyrone Johnson, known as Cloak, and Tandy Bowen, known as Dagger. Hence, “Cloak and Dagger”. It will be broadcast on Freeform, a sister network to ABC, in America; obviously at this early stage there’s no word on who would act as the UK distributor. It’s also unknown when the series will broadcast, however it has been given a full season order.

Variety has given the premise as thus:

The live-action interracial romance follows the duo, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love — Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.

I must confess, I know very little about Cloak and Dagger - they’re a duo who, though I’m aware of tangentially, I’ve never really read much about.

Still, though, I’m excited; it’s always nice when the MCU is expanded, because it allows us to explore a new aspect of this comic book world. In many ways, this is likely to be quite unlike any of the Marvel shows we’ve seen so far - there hasn’t ever really been a romance oriented show yet, nor one being headlined by such young protagonists. That’s a pretty good thing, I’d argue; like I said in another of my recent articles, different perspectives lead to new and engaging drama.

This is quite good news then, I’d say. Very much looking forward to seeing Cloak and Dagger!
