Mass brawl at Waterloo station as thugs battle police

Thugs clashed with police at Waterloo station during a brawl in front of terrified rail passengers.

Footage from Saturday night shows groups of men shouting at each other and police battling to keep them apart.

Officers armed with batons are seen being shoved by the crowd.

Some of the group of men throw punches while others jump over barriers to join the brawl.

One officer falls over in the pushing and shoving but manages to clamber back to his feet.

In the shocking images those taking part can be seen running at police as travellers at the station witness the violence unfolding on the busy concourse.

It is understood the violence was connected to football with rival fans confronting each other.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “At around 9pm on Saturday (24 February), British Transport Police officers on patrol at Waterloo railway station, alongside officers from the Metropolitan Police, responded to disorder between football fans. The situation was de-escalated and no arrests were made.”

Waterloo has 57.8 million entries and exits each year making it one of the busiest stations in London.
