'Friends' star Matthew Perry calls off engagement to 29-year-old fiancee after seven months

Matthew Perry has ended his engagement to Molly Hurwitz just seven months after proposing.

The Friends star - best known for playing Chandler Bing in the hit sitcom - announced in November 2020 that he was engaged to be married to the 29-year-old literary manager after dating for over a year,

But Perry, 51, has now given a statement to People magazine saying: "Sometimes things just don't work out and this is one of them, I wish Molly the best."

The couple had reportedly begun dating in 2018.

Perry announced in November last year: "I decided to get engaged. Luckily, I happened to be dating the greatest woman on the face of the planet at this time."

The split follows the revelation that Perry had been active on dating app Raya, after 19-year-old TikTok user @kittynichole - real name Kate Haralson - shared a video of their private Facetine chat which she alleges took place last May.

The Canadian-American actor has previously dated Baywatch star Yasmin Bleeth, and Oscar-winning actor Julia Roberts between 1995 and 1996. Roberts made a cameo in Friends as a former classmate of Chandler's.

Perry was in a relationship with Masters Of Sex and Truth Be Told star Lizzy Caplan, 38, from 2006 to 2012.

The Friends star had a very public battle with prescription drugs and alcohol during the height of his fame, entering rehab several times and experiencing dramatic fluctuations in his weight.

Perry recently joined Friends co-stars Courteney Cox, Jennifer Anistion, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer, for the much-hyped 25th anniversary reunion.

Some viewers expressed concern for his health claiming he slurred his words during the special episode and appeared 'out of it'.

Executive producer Kevin Bright, who worked with Perry on multiple episodes of the show, told The Hollywood Reporter: "I talked to him - It was great seeing him again. What people say is what people say. I don’t have any(thing) to say about that, except it was great to see him. And I think he’s very funny on the show.

“I think he’s Okay. He seems stronger and better since the last time I saw him, and excited about going forward.”
