What did you miss?

The One Show's former presenter Matt Baker returned to the BBC programme as a guest on Thursday - but viewers thought he had forgotten that he is no longer in charge.

Baker was back on the sofa to talk about his new farming contest, Our Dream Farm, but fell back into interviewing the other guests including Kings of Leon as if it was second nature, leaving viewers accusing him of upstaging new host Roman Kemp.

Fans of the former host pleaded for him to come back permanently, calling him the best presenter the show had ever had.

What, how, and why?

Matt Baker looked to be in his element when he returned to The One Show on Thursday to promote his new series Our Dream Farm - so much so, that viewers thought he had forgotten he was no longer the host.

Baker joined his old co-star Alex Jones and one of his replacements, Roman Kemp, to promote a new programme that sees would-be farmers competing to win a farm tenancy in Northumberland.

As is usually the case on the BBC show, Baker stuck around on the sofa to hear from some of the episode's other guests, but it seems old habits die hard as he automatically fell back into interviewer mode when Kings of Leon arrived in the studio.

He jumped straight into asking them how they felt watching back their newest music video and one viewer commented on X: "Has Matt Baker forgot that he’s not the presenter of The One Show any more?"

Someone else agreed: "Seriously! Can someone remind Matt Baker he no longer presents the show!!!!," while another person added: "I like how Matt Baker still thinks he’s presenting the Show," and someone else wrote: "Matt Baker taking over. He’s clearly missing the sofa."

Viewers thought it was a little awkward as Kemp had told Kings of Leon how much of a fan he was at the start of the interview, but Baker ended up playing a larger part in the chat than he did.

"That was a bit embarrassing even though he was a guest on The One Show former host Matt Baker totally upstaged Roman Kemp," commented one person.

"Is Matt Baker meant to be interviewing Kings of Leon on the one show? I’m sure he just stole Roman’s line. Great to see him back on the sofa though," wrote someone else.

Many of his fans were delighted to see him back in the studio, though, as one commented: "Love how Matt Baker has gone immediately back into interview mode #OneShow - under rated presenter."

Someone else wrote: "Please can we start a campaign to get #MattBaker back on The One Show? He's such a pro and still missed desperately."

Another fan added: "Matt Baker immediately back in the groove, he's the best presenter they ever had."

What else happened on The One Show?

Guests Kings of Leon revealed their sneaky way of finding out whether their new songs are any good - and admitted they passed off some of their less popular tunes as a rival band's work.

Band member Jared Followill said: "You can't really let the cat out of the bag too much so I'll sneak it on in an Uber or at a party. It's a great way to get boots on the ground intel. If they think it's good, I'll tell them after maybe it was us.

"If they don't like it I'll tell them it's the new Killers song."

He and brother Caleb also teased what they have in store for fans at their BST Hyde Park show this summer.

Jared said: "Hyde Park is special to us, it's always been a special place. We've played there a couple of times and every time it's just like memories forever. So we'll definitely do some special things, we'll have some songs on there that we don't always play."

The One Show airs on BBC One at 7pm on weekdays.
