Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins has offered the first glimpse of Matt Hancock taking on Special Forces training - and it looks like he had a rough ride, as footage shows him being knocked to the ground in a pool of water.

The disgraced former health secretary caused outrage when he appeared on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! last year while still serving as an MP.

Viewers were angered to see him cashing in as a celebrity contestant after his handling of the Covid pandemic, particularly with care home residents, as well as his affair with an aide which broke his own social distancing rules.

Now, Channel 4 viewers can see him go through the brutal challenge of Special Forces selection training in the harsh jungle of Thung Ui, North Vietnam alongside a group of celebrities including James "Arg" Argent, Gareth Gates, Danielle Lloyd and Michelle Heaton.

Other clips show a worried-looking Hancock trying to cross a balance beam in a harness, and being brutally slammed to the ground in a pool of water by Love Island star Teddy Soares.

Later, during a boxing match things get physical again as one of the staff is heard shouting: "Take his head off!"

It seems Hancock did not just struggle with the physical challenges, as at one point he is shown sitting in the interview room, famous for staff grilling celebrities about their past regrets, looking despairing.

One of the staff tells him: "Relax. You look like you're about to get executed."

Hancock isn't the only upset celebrity recruit, as Towie star Arg is shown in floods of tears, while Lloyd cries about missing her family.

Talking about his Celebrity SAS experience, Hancock says: "Being on SAS was like nothing else I’ve ever experienced. It's one of the toughest physical and mental things I've ever done. It really opens your eyes and makes you look into yourself.

"After coming through the most challenging period as health secretary during the pandemic, I wanted to push my limits. It’s safe to say the course tested my resilience!"

The series actually filmed last year, prior to Hancock's I'm A Celebrity experience, and he is said to have suffered with trench foot from long amounts of time spent standing in water during the tough challenge.

Celebrity SAS returns to Channel 4 on Tuesday, 26 September at 9.30pm and continues on Sundays at 9pm from 1 October.
