Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner has publicly backed USMNT boss Gregg Berhalter after their humiliating Copa America exit.

Turner and his USMNT teammates failed to qualify for the knockout stages after a 1-0 defeat to Uruguay in their final group match on Monday night. And some fans of the national team chanted ‘fire Gregg’ after the final whistle.

Speaking to FOX after the match, Turner gave his support to under-fire Berhalter. "I see no issue with the direction that we're heading," he said.

"I mean when you have a fight like that on the bench, in every single game that we were in, in this tournament, it speaks volumes to, you know, the kind of a manager and the way he prepares us - and to be honest, we've been in positions to win in every single game that we played.

"So yeah, I mean everything's still fresh and raw obviously right now. We'll let the dust settle from it. I mean, we can't fault (Berhalter), we can't look anywhere to blame except for ourselves as players. You know, at the end of the day, we didn't do enough and we have to hold ourselves accountable for that."
