Matthijs de Ligt remained tight-lipped when asked about his future amid links to Manchester United.

The Bayern Munich defender has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks. United are known to have an interest in the centre-back as Erik ten Hag aims to strengthen his defence during the summer transfer window.

De Ligt is currently with the Netherlands national team as his country reached the quarter-final of Euro 2024. The Dutch claimed a 3-0 win over Romania in their last-16 tie on Tuesday night to book their place in the next round.

It was after the game that De Ligt was spotted walking through the mixed zone at the Allianz Arena, which also happens to be the defender's home stadium for Bayern Munich. This is where players typically stop and answer questions from the media, but that was not the case for De Ligt.

Journalist Julian Buhl has reported that De Ligt walked straight through the mixed zone without stopping to speak to reporters. It has been stated that the defender did give a reason as to why he would not answer any questions.

"I did not play and cannot say much," De Ligt is quoted as having said on Monday night. De Ligt was an unused substitute and is yet to feature in any of the Netherlands' four matches at Euro 2024 so far, with Stefan de Vrij instead chosen as the defensive partner for Virgil van Dijk.

United are hopeful of completing a deal to sign De Ligt this summer. Ten Hag and Co. are looking to add two new centre-backs to their squad before the transfer window closes.

Raphael Varane left the club this summer as a free agent, while Victor Lindelof could also depart if a suitable offer is received. De Ligt joined Bayern in 2022 from Juventus in a £68 million deal and previously worked alongside Ten Hag during the duo's time at Ajax.
