Max Thieriot previews “Fire Country”'s season 2 finale with an exclusive clip of Bode's release

The episode features newly-won freedom, a wedding, and a firefighter on the run.

There’s a lot going on in Edgewater in Fire Country's “shocking” — according to series star Max Thieriot — season finale.

Bode (Thieriot) has been released from Three Rock (watch the exclusive clip from the finale above); the woman he loves, Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila), is set to get married; and her father, Manny, is on the run from the authorities.

“We leave it off in a new chapter for so many characters,” Thieriot tells Entertainment Weekly about the end of season 2. “There’s some heartbreak and some character reveals. It really propels us into season 3 in a really fun and exciting way.”

While he’s happy to be free, Bode is no longer a firefighter, which is such an important piece of his progress.

“Being an incarcerated firefighter turned out to be a huge blessing in his life and a real gift. He’s really found his purpose in that now,” Thieriot explains.

For many, fire camp is a way back home faster, but Bode’s loved ones all protect their community and each other every day, so he wants to travel the more difficult road of joining CalFire after incarceration. Without his purpose, he will have to figure out how to readjust to life as a civilian without the regimented days at Three Rock.

Unfortunately, Bode gets his freedom just as Gabriela prepares to tie the knot.

“[They] talked about this dream of when he’s out and what they will be like,” he says “When they had spoken about all those things originally, Diego was never in the picture and now he clearly is.”

In happier news, it has been revealed that season 1 fan favorite Freddy (the character played by W. Tré Davis who was released from Three Rock last season) is back!

“Bode getting to see Freddy is huge, because he’s now this beacon of hope for him. He gets to see a guy he knew that had to overcome so much living out his dream,” he says about the reunion. “He’s always been this joy in [Bode’s] life and makes Bode smile, so getting to film those scenes was fun.”

Looking ahead at next season, Thieriot is excited for all the possibilities now that Bode is no longer confined to Three Rock.

“I feel like now we can fully dive into scenes with his parents and Jake and Eve and their friendship —getting to see what that was like before, because now they’re together,” he says about what’s possible moving forward.

His character's more immediate future is somewhat less cheerful. Talking about the wedding, Thieriot teases that we’re in for quite the occasion: “[It’s] big, it’s beautiful. It’s teed up to be this exciting finish of the season.”

He also knows what viewers are wondering — whether Bode or Gabriela will be honest about their feelings for each other before she walks down the aisle — but is staying quiet on that topic for now.

Fire Country season 2 finale airs May 17 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
